Why Yes Man: Our First Blog Post

04. May 2015

My name is Nathan Resnick, I’m the founder of Yes Man and I want to personally introduce you to our new blog. All of us at Yes Man want to provide a platform to inspire eachother by sharing stories. As our first blog post, I wanted to take the time to tell you a little about our story and how I got started with Yes Man.

The concept for Yes Man started three years ago, during my freshman year of college. My buddies and I at the University of San Diego would be surfing before class and cliff jumping between when we realized everything starts by saying Yes. We were the group of action oriented guys who wouldn’t let an opportunity slip by us for the fear of not knowing what we’d miss out on. Every group of buddies has that guy who is always down for whatever—for us it was a matter of pushing each other to do as much as we could with our day.

Instead of focusing on what I had to do with my day (like attend class), I took a blank-canvas approach and saw free time in my schedule as an opportunity to do more with my life. Our brand revolves the value of time. When you look at our watches, you should be thinking about what you’re doing with your life, not just concerned about the time.

We decided to launch Yes Man as a watch brand because I could never find the right sizing options on my watches and the leather band would always ware down. I was playing with a zip-tie one day and it hit me: I could apply that same function to a watch strap. We created the only leather watch straps without holes. This gives you the perfect fit everytime while keeping the leather on your watch fresh.

Though this is innovative, our vision isn’t to sell watch straps. We’re creating a brand that empowers you to do more with your life. My motivation came from my summer internship—I was working a 9-5 job as a sales intern, making an endless amount of cold calls everyday. I couldn’t stand it and entrepreneurship was my outlet. With the idea for our now patent-pending buckle buzzing in my head and my feeling for the Yes Man lifestyle, I decided to pour my life into turning my dream into a reality.

I would get home from work at around 5:30pm, relax for a bit and eat dinner, then start working on Yes Man at about 7:00pm. I wouldn’t stop working until 3am and would be up for work by 7:30am. Sleep was limited but my passion kept me up. These late nights led to where we’re at today.

Next month we’ll be launching our newest line of watches, the Shot Caller. The inspiration for this design came from our power to make decisions. I started Yes Man because I wanted to do more with my life. I have realized that life is full of opportunities but only the ones who say Yes make the most of them.

When you think about where you’re at in your life right now, are there opportunities you wished you had said Yes to? As I look at a Shot Caller on my wrist, I feel empowered to make the right decisions.

At Yes Man our goal isn’t just to create premium products. We are fueled by our passion to empower you to do more with your life. Recall a time in your life where you wished you had said Yes and share it below. We’re a community helping others make the most of life. #beayesman
